We have a list of gift ideas at www.whattogive.com. Search for Mama’s e-mail address or name.

An inventory of the books Elliott already has is now posted on the right hand side of the blog under “Pages.”

Happy boy

We’ve been trying to catch a video of this for a few weeks… apparently Daddy’s family is much better at getting E to giggle than we are!

Happy 85th, Great-Grandma! or… Elliott’s first trip above the Mason-Dixon

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Great-Grandma E turned 85 on Monday, November 16. As a gift to her, we surprised her on Friday evening with Mimi, Poppi, Auntie A and Uncle B, and we stayed through Senior Citizens’ Day at the Salvation Army on Wednesday. Needless to say, after the initial shock, she was thrilled to meet her great-grandson. Elliott also got to meet his great-aunt M and his first cousin once removed, J. Yes, Mama had to consult Wikipedia to determine that J is Elliott’s first cousin once removed.

Elliott again did very well through airport security and on his plane rides. We even got caught in some kind of lockdown drill at airport security in Atlanta. He didn’t sleep terribly well on our trip, but he was a happy boy most of the time, nonetheless. He visited an Italian restaurant, heard GG (great-grandma) talk about her family and great-grandpa R’s family, visited the First Church in Boston (a UU congregation), saw the ducks in Boston Common, and “ate” at the Union Oyster House, an historic restaurant. E also met GG’s friends and neighbors, visited Mama’s friends O and D, and hung out with Poppi and GG while Mama and Daddy did some sightseeing. We were very happy and very tired when we arrived back home on Wednesday!

20 weeks old

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

Mama and Dad totally spaced on taking Elliott’s 19 week photos. Oops! For his 20 week birthday, we were in Massachussetts celebrating Great-Grandma Erma’s 85th birthday, so we had a change of scenery.

19-20 weeks is when babies have another big developmental leap. Elliott has been squealing up a storm. The happy pterodactyl has come to roost in our house! He is also grasping things at will, and he is also starting to communicate more and more. He is very interested in toys, particularly the ones he has with bright colors and high contrast, and he sometimes will entertain himself with a toy or on his playmat for 10 minutes or more. He now will reach his arms out toward us when he wants to be picked up, and he loves feeling Daddy’s scratchy face and touching Mama’s cheek (and then grabbing her lip with his eagle claw!)

Elliott is now 18 weeks old. He went to the doctor for his 4 month check up yesterday. Mama and Daddy are now vaccinated against both seasonal flu and H1N1. E got his 4 month shots and took them like a champ. His current stats:

15 lbs. 11 oz., 66th percentile for weight

25.5 inches, 71st percentile for height

“Perfect” proportions

He has also doubled his birth weight of 7 lbs. 13 oz.

17 weeks old

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Elliott turned 17 weeks old on October 27th… things have been so hectic with Mama back at work that we haven’t had time to post. In Elliott’s 17th week, he attended his first football game(s), the APS “Domecoming” at the Georgia Dome. He made friends with Kathy Augustine, our deputy superintendent of curriculum and instruction. Yet more evidence that he is very fond of women with deep voices. He also is quite fond of listening to NPR–he talks to the reporters in the car. His favorites are Michelle Norris and Odette Yousef (of our local affiliate, WABE). On the topic of Elliott’s loves in public news programming, Daddy discovered recently that E LOVES Charlie Rose. Go figure!
