16 weeks old

Elliott is a championship giggler now. He spent the days this week with a babysitter while Daddy studied for his big engineering test this weekend. She contends that he will grow up to be a politician or some other speech-delivering profession since he is such a conversationalist. We saw Grandpa at the airport last weekend on his way to Spain, and we should see him again on his way back this coming weekend.

Elliott has been eating like a piglet and growing like a weed! The books say that babies have a growth spurt every three weeks or so… I think ours has one constantly. He eats more than any of our friends’ babies, it seems. Three six-ounce bottles while Mama is away and then still three times at night. This is causing Mama much consternation now that she is back at work fulltime and can’t keep up with the demands of his tummy. We’ll see how it goes, I guess.

Our little man is 14 weeks old today. This week he celebrated his 3 month birthday and kept Grandma Barbara company all by himself for an afternoon.

Elliott’s New BFF

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Elliott made a new best friend when we were in Texas last weekend. You might think it was my cousin Mike’s (awesome) wife, Cindy… but no. We couldn’t get him to continue to talk to his friend after I started taping him, but he was mesmerized nonetheless. :D

5 generations

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Last weekend, Elliott met his great-grandmother and his great-great grandmother. Photos of the 5 generations together follow. If you would like access to the loads of raw photos, e-mail me at rebecca (dot) kaye (at) gmail (dot) com.

Elliott’s 13th week was an unlucky and hectic one. Mama’s great aunt Nonnie died last Wednesday, so she and Elliott planned his first trip on an airplane to Texas over the weekend. Mama began the weekend with a long-planned retreat to Rome, Ga for LEAD Atlanta, a program she is participating in this year. So, for that, she spent her first night away from her little munchkin, which was hard, but also rewarding. Not just because of the great people she met and will be spending the year learning with, but also because she slept for 8 hours in a row for the first time in over 4 months. :)

As soon as mama got home from the retreat at Berry College, she and Elliott headed to the airport to go to Houston. While it was intimidating, the trip out went really well. Folks were really helpful through security, and the flight was relatively uneventful with E nursing and sleeping most of the way.

Our 2 days in Tomball were good–it was great to see the family and introduce them to their newest relative. It was especially wonderful to have all five (5) generations of the family together in one place. I’ll post more about that once I can clean the photos up for posting. Mama still feels out-of-sorts about Great-Aunt Nonnie’s death (particularly since we missed the memorial service because of my retreat), but she is very very glad that she had some time to be with family and remember her.

The flight back could have been awful–there were storms in the Houston area, so the plane we were supposed to be on to return to Atlanta was diverted to Austin. Our flight time kept getting pushed back farther and farther… and the folks waiting for the flight became more and more convinced that our flight would be cancelled. Finally, we did take off and fly safely from Houston to Atlanta, about 4 hours late, with fewer than 20 percent of the seats on the plane filled. Elliott was blessedly well behaved both during our long delay in the terminal and on the very late flight (we finally landed in Atlanta after 1am).
