Happy (One-Month) Birthday to E!

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Today marks a month since Elliott was born. I have to admit that I barely even remember being in the hospital at this point. It must be nature’s way of making sure we can have more children…

4 week check up

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

The verdict from the pediatrician is that Elliott is a tall, skinny boy. He’s now 22″ tall and weighs 9lbs. 5oz. That puts him around the 65th percentile for height and the 40th for weight.

Otherwise, the doctor deemed him healthy and thriving. He seemed to credit Mom and Pop for that… at this point, I think we just got lucky.

We also put pants on him today. They seem a little pointless in this 90 degree weather, but they are really freaking cute!

Edited to add: E was definitely the cutest baby at the pediatrician’s office. When people rave about how cute he is, I generally think, “Oh, you say that to all the babies.” But maybe I’m not quite as biased as I think when he seems unbelievably adorable. :)

4 weeks old

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Elliott is four weeks old today. I have to say that the four week mark isn’t the cutest one. He has an uncute breakout of baby acne on his cheeks. He’s still pretty cute underneath, though. :)

I believe this means he has officially graduated from being a “newborn” to being an “infant!”

We have his 4 week check up at the pediatrician tomorrow. Hopefully we’ll survive without another “shower” like he had the last time we went to the doctor.

Baby in things

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

It all started with trying to weigh Elliott on the digital kitchen scale… and it was so adorable to put him in a bowl that Dad started putting him in other things while E was “helping” with some tasks around the house.

Looks like they “played” nice together while Mama ran out to Trader Joe’s for an hour. :)

Bad Cat Parents

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Apparently, there is something about becoming parents to a human that has caused us to begin mistreating our poor feline children in the name of cuteness… well, the one (Sid) who tolerates us putting the baby near him, anyway.

3 weeks old

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Elliott has been here on the outside with us for 3 whole weeks. Life has settled down a little… we’ve made it through a lot of firsts–the first bath,  first bottle, first blow-out (of the diaper), so not everything seems quite so overwhelming at this point. But there are many more firsts still to come.

Thus far, it has been incredibly easy to be completely infatuated with this tiny person, and incredibly hard figuring out how to take care of him, do what is best for him and watch the results when we fail. Luckily, they say it takes 21 days to form a habit, so at this point we should at least be habitually trying our best. From what I understand, just when the hard stuff starts to get easy, new hard stuff will come along to keep us on our toes.

Elliott and Daddy’s First Meal

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Mama started pumping breastmilk and building up a little supply in the fridge/freezer so that someday she might be able to leave the house alone or sleep for more than 2 consecutive hours.

Dad introduced Elliott to the bottle for the first time on Sunday. E didn’t seem to notice that the milk delivery system was any different from usual. Here’s hoping he continues to be such an easy going eater!
